New Projects PDF Print E-mail

I am working on couple of new projects these days which is taking a lot of my time in addition to my daily work and family life.

First project is about cataloging my Ottoman Empire postcard collection. You can access the site from http://postcards.turishpostalhistory.com

There is little known about the late 19th century and early 20th century picture postcard editors. There has been some books written about the subject but even with that, a lot of information is still a mystery. One of the major publications is Mert Sandalci's Postcards of Max Fruchtermann books. These books are quite expensive but full of pictures of Fruchtermann's entire publication. In my opinion all serious Fruchtermann collectors should own one. There are couple other topical publications in this subject that I know. One of them is depicting Istanbul and the other one Izmir.

Picture postcard collection as a hobby is increasing its populatity among Turkish and international collectors. If you are interested in this subject or would like to exchange information or postcards, please get in touch with me.

My second project is about my maps and prints. Similar to my postcard collection, I am in the process of  creating a digital catalog of my collection of maps of Ottoman Empire. Please follow this link to access the site http://maps.turkishpostalhistory.com. Since I was little I was interested in maps though I never thought I would be a collector of old maps one day. It is fascinating to think how early cartographers had mapped the land and sea just by looking at the stars. It is also quite interesting how throughout the years the names of the cities have changed. I can spend hours in front of an old city map and try to imagine how the life was 500 years ago. Let me know if you share the same interest!

My third project is to create a catalog of Ottoman and Turkish stamps. I have started and stopped this project many times. The information I'd like to have is too much for one person to put together. If you are interested to help let me know.
